Quote:I was really surprised and dissappointed to learn that my suspicions of Eanes ISD were accurateHow do you know your suspicious are accurate? My daughter attends WHS and among her best friends are a Dominican girl, a black guy, several hispanic girls, some white kids, and (based on what she tells me they talk about) children of extreme liberals and hardcore republicans alike.Decisions based on fear and second hand information are rarely the best decisions. Go visit the schools you're interested in and draw your own conclusions. Also understand that 98% of your kid's time will be sitting in a seat in a classroom. That's what they're there for.
The social stuff is a factor as well, but I look foremost at how well a school can prepare my kid for college.Steve. How do you know your suspicious are accurate? Most of the people I hear complaining about Eanes ISD dont know much about the district or the students who attend it. Some negative assertions about Eanes ISD are based on faulty reasoning that kids from well-off families are susceptible to drugs because they have too much money to throw around. Ivms 4200 client. This is a common stereotype. In fact many of the affluent families I know in Eanes ISD are ones who want their children to be extremely focused on their education so they can achieve the level of success their parents have.

We have b/w 400-500k to spend on a home. Although schools are our top priority, being Hispanic, we have great concern over the lack of diversity and obvious wealth in this area. Growing up in Dallas, the only frame of reference I have to an area like this is Highland Park ISD. For those who are familiar w/Dallas, is this an accurate perception?
Although we want the best schools for our kids, we are concerned that we will be moving into a very materialistic area, where keeping up with the Joneses is the top priority. Any thoughts? We're also open to exploring other neighborhoods in Southwest Austin that have excellent elementary and middle schools.Although Eanes has consistently high ratings, it (statistically) doesn't have the highest rated HS or ES in greater Austin.so it may or may not be perceived as 'the best' for public schools. I agree to look at 'greatschools.net' & this site for info:Your comparison to HPISD is spot on. (imo)In addition to SW Austin, you might want to look at the swath of geography inside the following roads: Mopac north to 183.183 NW to Anderson Mill.Anderson Mill to RR 620.RR 620 south to RR 2222.RR 2222 east back to Mopac.
